Alice was the first-born child of Richard Du Cane (1821-1904) and Charlotte Maria Guest (1834-1902). She married the publisher and artist Alexander Henry Hallam Murray on 15 December 1885 at St. George's, Hanover Square, London.

Hallam and Alice were the parents of four children;
Admiral Arthur John Layard Murray (1886-1959),
Betty Monica Proby, née Murray (1889-1967),
Commander Michael Richard Hallam Murray (1893-1938), and
Mary Barbara Murray (1897-1992).

Alice was the paternal grandmother of Dame Alice Rosemary Murray, the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge.

Mrs. Richard Proby, of Elton Hall, has been bereaved by the death on Whit Sunday of her mother, Mrs. Alicia Maria Murray, aged 86. The funeral took place at Elton on Tuesday.

BURIAL SOURCE: ELTON HALL archivist confirmed that Alicia is buried at All Saints Churchyard in Elton. There is a memorial stone for Alicia next to her husband's grave in St. Stephen's Churchyard, Lympne, Kent.
