She was born Jantje de Vries (the Frisian) in January 1879 in the village of Ten Post, municipality Ten Boer, located in the northeastern central part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen, daughter of Gerrit de Vries (24 years old, farmer) and Anje Hoving.

In 1891 she emigrated with her parents and seven siblings to the USA, where the family De Vries stayed in 1900 in Chicago.

On May 8, 1902 Jennie Devries married in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois at the age of 23 years to the two years younger Egbertus Leep, who was born in the Dutch northern province Friesland.

In September 1924 Jennie aka Katie died at the age of 45 years in Highland, Lake County, in the extreme northwestern part of Indiana, adjacent to Cook County and Chicago in Illinois, but she was buried in Lansing, Illinois, about 6 miles west of Highland.
