MARSHALL, NC – Elsie Deloris Payne Salliotte, 89, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at her home.
Mrs. Salliotte was born January 3, 1922 to her beloved parents, Caney Captain Payne and Onie Worley Payne. Elsie was raised on Farmer Mountain in the Big Pine Community and in the 1940's moved to Ecorse, Michigan. She lived there until September 2008 when health issues brought her back to Madison County to be cared for by her nephew, Alan Payne. Elsie may have moved North but maintained her love for her Big Pine Mountain.
Elsie has built wood pallets, worked many years for the dry cleaners and also for the Social Services as a caretaker. She believed in hard work and her life has shown the evidence. She had a love for yard work and pristine flower gardens. Elsie testified to the fact that she was a member of the Lower Big Pine Baptist Church and was baptized by Reverend Everett Sprinkle in the Big Pine Creek.
Mrs. Salliotte was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Caney and Onie Payne; brothers, Jerry, Henry and Evin Payne; sisters, Belva Henderson, Paralee Tweed, Clemmie Worley, Ora Baker, Nellie Massey, Mearl Davis and Mennie Payne.
She is survived by her nephew and caretaker, Alan Payne and his family, Janet Payne, Brad and Stephanie Payne, Chad and Denise Payne, Lisa and Bryan Glance, Thad Payne and Ivy Gregg, her great-great niece, Amber and great-great nephews, James, Austin, Grady, Bricen and Caleb who visited her often; a special niece, Juanita Massey Rash whom she considered a daughter. Also surviving a sister, Evie Payne; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at the Lower Big Pine Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Freeman officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Elsie will be buried beside her beloved parents at the Aler Worley Cemetery in the Big Pine Community.
