Evie was born January 28, 1914 to the late Caney and Onie Payne of Madison County, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Ira Massey; by her husband of 32 years, Richmond Payne; by son, Leonard Massey; five Massey babies: Nina, Grace, Pansy, Jewell and Harold; brothers: Henry, Evin and Jerry Payne; sisters: Belva, Paralee, Mennie, Orie, Clemmie, Nellie, Elsie and Merle.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Armstrong; son, Donald (Donna) Massey and daughter in law, Faye Massey; grandchildren: Shane (Amy), Christopher (Leah), Greg (Joyce), Jeff (Tammy), Kevin (Michelle) Massey, Karen (Jim) Baker and Gordon (Laurie) Armstrong; great-grandchildren: Brandon Armstrong, Ann and Sara Baker, Candace, Justin, Caleb, Melanie, Zachary, Tyler and Grace Massey.
Evie dedicated her life to family, friends, her love and work for her church. As a beloved wife, mother, mamaw, aunt and friend, Evie touched the lives of many on her exciting journey of 102 years. Her gentleness, soft-spoken words and sweet smile were her trademark and encouragement to all who knew her.
Evie was a member of First Baptist Church, Spruce Pine, NC, and formally a member at Caney Fork and North Fork Baptist in Marshall, NC.
A hole is left in the hearts of many as she passed from this life into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior. Evie invites all her loved ones to follow that same path into eternity to be with her.

Evie's life will be celebrated on Monday, August 29, 2016 2pm in the chapel of Madison Funeral Services, Marshall, NC, with Reverend Bruce Buckner officiating. Her family will receive friends on Sunday August 28, 2016 from 6pm-8pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at North Fork Baptist Church Cemetery-Big Pine, Marshall, NC.
