Daughter of Judge Alexander Campbell, a prominent lawyer and Judge. Susan Eliza Milliken (born Eastport, Maine, 23 October 1816.) Ellen was known as "Nell" or "Nellie". She married William Cornelis Bastiaan de Fremery in San Francisco, California, August 18, 1863.

OAKLAND TRIBUNE
Mrs. Ellen Ober de Fremery, pioneer Eastbay resident and widow of the late William C.B. de Fremery, banker and one of the first importers and exports in this district, was buried at Mountain View cemetery this morning following private services at the family home, 77 Fairmont Avenue.

Only members of the family were in attendance as the Rev. Frank M. Silsley, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, eulogized the 86 year old social and civic figure whose death followed a brief illness Friday night.

No formal pallbearers were in attendance, although her nine children were all present. They are Jessie, Virginie, Grace Hortense, Ellen Louise, Alexandra and Amy Susan, all of Oakland; William C. of Piedmont; Donald, of Los Angeles and Mrs. David Atkins and Mrs. Guillo Minetti of San Francisco.
