Ver Meer, was born October 7, 1915, at Hull, Iowa. He received his education in country schools in the Hull, Iowa area. He was united in marriage to Henriett Mulder. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Hull area. On March 27, 1970, he was united in marriage to Patricia Eich-Van Diepen in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Boyden.
He was employed by Smit & Son and later by Alton Rendering before his retirement in 1980. The couple spent their retirement years in Boyden. He passed away on Wednesday, October 27,
1999, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, reaching the age of 84 years and 20 days.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden. Gerrit served in numerous positions in the church, as an elder, taught Sunday School and catechism.
Gerrit is survived by his wife Patricia of Boyden; children, Gertrude and her husband, Eugene Vander Hamm of Ireton, Iowa; James and his wife, Elaine Ver Meer of Boyden, Iowa; Kenneth and his wife, Dorothy Ver Meer of Hull, Iowa; Harold and his wife, Nilda Ver Meer of Denver, Iowa; Marilyn and her husband, Paul Hoekema of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Ray and his wife, Kathy Van Diepen of Boyden, Iowa and Joyce and her husband, Harold Obbink of Boyden, Iowa; also twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Priscilla Van Ommeren of Maurice, Iowa; also a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth; two granddaughters and a grandson; parents; and five sisters and one brother.
