Mrs. Gertrude Van Ommeren, 89, of Orange City.died Monday, June 7, 1993 at the Orange City Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated. Interment was at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.
Gertrude was born March 12, 1904 at Sioux Center, the daughter of Jacob W. and Cynthia (Te Slaa) Vermeer. She was raised at Hull.
On Jan. 27, 1926 she married Joe C. Van Ommeren at Hull. They farmed at Hull until 1944 when they moved to Orange City. Mr. Van Ommeren died Oct. 26, 1979 at Orange City.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City and a former member of the Orange City Municipal Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include her three sons, Vemon and his wife Marie of Des Moines, Ivan and his wife Dot of Cedar Falls, and Roger and his wife Charlene of Waco, Tex.; son-in-law George Genant of Springfield, S.D.; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerrit Vermeer of Boyden; and three sisters, Johanna Kooiker of Hull, Priscilla Van Ommeren of Maurice and Hattie Vink of Worthington, Minn.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Annetta Genant; a grandson; a brother, Edward Vermeer, and two sisters, Louise Intveld and Effie Stientjes.
