Christened at Leiden April 30, 1809 witnessed by Mr. Petrus Isaacus de Fremery. On October 12, 1830, at the age of 21 he registered at Leiden as a student of literature but did not finish his studies. He remained established in his place of birth, and was magistrate of Leiden and co-owner of the salt works and finally member of the Provincial Government of South Holland. There were five children from the marriage: one son who never married and four daughters.
