Gustave D. Grotjan (Obituary)

Gustave (Gus) D. Grotjan, 92, of Decatur, Illinois., died Nov. 17, 1998 in Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur. He was born Dec. 10, 1905 in Dalton, the son of Albert and Caroline Munson Grotjan.

He married Ardith Beckett on May 31, 1930. She preceded him in death on March 7, 1987. Mr. Grotjan retired from A. E. Staley Manufacturing Co. where he was employed as a supervisor. (His mother died when he was less than a year old and consequently he was mainly raised by relatives. He jumped a train to Illinois when he was a teen and got a job at the Staley company.)


Survivors include his three sons, Roger and Jane of Oakley, Wayne and Sue of Decatur and Stanley and Delores of Bend, Ore.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Edward, John and Lon Grotjan; and three sisters, Ida James, Freda Carr and Valley George.

Graveside services were held Nov. 27 in North Fork Cemetery in Decatur.
