Ed was born on the Warren Farm presently known as the Milton Daily Farm (approximately 3/4 miles East of Brunswick South of U.S. Highway 24), in a two story house. At birth Ed weighed 2-1/2 pounds, was fed with an eye dropper and kept warm on the oven door of the kitchen wood cooking stove. He was given the nickname of "Sun" by his mother and most all of the rest of the family, relatives and friends knew him by that name or "Ed".

He enlisted in the United States Army when he was twenty three years old, on April 2, 1918, at Keytesville. He served in several battles, engagements, and skirmishes. He received his Honorable Discharge on November 30, 1919.

Most of their married life was spent in Chariton County except for a brief period when he worked in Decatur, Macon County, Illinois, where he was employed by the A. E. Staley Manufacturing Company.

Ed suffered a stroke at the farm home on December 19, 1980, and was taken by ambulance to the Boone County Hospital, Columbia, Missouri. After several weeks he was released and taken by ambulance to a nursing home as he required constant care. Ed lived in Chastain's Nursing Home, Linn County, Marceline, Missouri, approximately one year and then moved to McLarney Manor, Brookfield, Linn County, Missouri, where he resided until he passed away on April 11, 1985.
