Mr. Charles P. Kroese, age 91, of Hull, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, October 10, at 10:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. The Rev. Loren Kotman will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation without the family will be on Friday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Charles was born on August 27, 1929, on a farm west of Hull, the son of Peter and Cynthia Anneta (Te Slaa) Kroese. He was raised on a farm north of Hull and attended the Country School Lincoln #1. He enlisted in the United States Army and served as a medic in Germany for two years during the Korean Conflict. During this time, he also earned his GED.

He was united in marriage to Darlene Carol Grevengoed on December 16, 1953, in Middleburg. They made their home on a farm near George, and later on a farm near Hull, where he was a dairy farmer and seed corn salesman for DeKalb. In retirement, Chuck and Darlene moved into Hull and in 2018, they became residents of the Pleasant Acres Care Center.

Mr. Kroese was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull, where he had been an elder and a deacon. He also served on the North Central Region AMPI Board, the Hull Christian School Board, and was a member of the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post in Hull and sang as part of the Kroese Quartet. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, drawing and painting birds, coin collecting, drives in the country, and stopping at the farm store to purchase his favorite jellybeans.

Survivors include his wife of more than 66 years; five children, Dennis Kroese, of Hull; Larry Kroese, and his wife, Faye, of Doon; Doug Kroese, and his wife, Deb, of Camdenton, Missouri; Paul Kroese, and his wife, Dawn, of Orange City; and Sandy, and her husband, Scott Guy, of West Des Moines; fourteen grandchildren, Jared (Andrea) Kroese, Luke (Breanna) Kroese, Joe (Becca) Kroese, Justin (Kayla) Kroese, Ashley (Travis) Howry, Bekka (Blake) Herpeche, Kaitlin Kroese, Tim (Audrey) Kroese, Tyler (Sabrina) Kroese, Jesse (Jenni) Kroese, Megan (Kevin) Ohrlund, Keaton (Gabby) Alons, Justin (Nicole) Guy, and Tyler Guy; eighteen great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, John and Joyce Kroese, of Hull; a sister-in-law, Wilmina Grevengoed, of Hull; and two brothers-in-law and their wives, Howard and Marilyn Grevengoed, of Hull; and Alvin and Eileen Grevengoed, of Clever, Missouri.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Gerrit and Winnie Grevengoed; three sisters, Freda Kroese,; Hilda, and her husband, Tom De Jong; and Freda, and her husband, Harry Klay; and a brother-in-law, John Grevengoed.

Memorials may be directed to the Hull Christian School.
