Freda Klay, age 83, of Hull, Iowa passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015, at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center, Iowa.

There will be a memorial service on Monday, June 29, at 10:30am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull, Iowa. The Rev. Loren Kotman will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Freda Annetta (nee Kroese) Klay was born on February 26, 1932, at Hull, the daughter of Peter and Cynthia Annetta (Te Slaa) Kroese. She was raised in rural Hull, where she attended a country school 1½ miles from home. She rode there on a bicycle with her two brothers. In 1949, she graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull.

On September 14, 1951, she married Harold Thomas Klay in Hull. They made their home in Hull, where she was a homemaker. She was also employed at P. M. A. in Orange City and Schmacker Construction in Hull. She then served as accounts receivable clerk at Koyker Manufacturing and the Sioux Steel Company in Hull for 22 years.

Mrs. Klay was a lifelong member of the First Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed flower gardening.

Survivors include her husband of more than 63 years, “Harry”; two brothers and their wives, Charles P. and Darlene Kroese and John and Joyce Kroese, all of Hull; and nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Hilda, and her husband, Tom De Jong, and another Freda, at the age of six.
