Ernest Earl McKain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin M. McKain, was born in Grenola, Kansas Feb. 28, 1900, and departed this life at this home east of Delphos on March 25, 1936, at the age of 36 years and 27 days, after an illness of 13 years.

He came with his parents to Delphos, Kansas, at the age of 7 years and has lived the remaining part of his life in Ottawa County.

On Sept. 21, 1921, he was united in marriage to Rosa Filley. Even though their fellowship together was short-lived, she was a true companion. To this union were born two sons, Richard Earl, age 13, Melvin Loyd, age 9, and one daughter, Phyllis Arlene, age 11, all of the home.

In his early married life, he was a farmer until his afflictions became so intense that he was compelled to quit. In spite of his pain, he was a patient sufferer, never complaining, and enjoyed himself in the social gatherings of the community.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Rosa McKain; three children, Richard, Arlene and Melvin; his father, Edwin McKain; eight brothers, Ross, of Glasco; Eugene, Jess, Everett, Wesley, Virgil and Clyde, of Delphos; and Archie of Minneapolis, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Jennie E. Dewey, of Delphos; twenty nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. An infant brother and his mother preceded him in death.

He was highly esteemed by all who knew him, and his passing leaves a vacancy in his home and community that cannot be filled. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The Funeral service was held Friday at three o'clock at the Presbyterian Church in Delphos, with Rev. E.A. Coates of Morgan Chapel in charge, and Rev. C.R. Flowers of Lamar assisting. The body was laid to rest in the Delphos Cemetery.

The pallbearers were George Keller, Jr., Chester Selves, Bruff Wilkins, Cecil LaPlant, Rolla Hogg, and Hubert Ablard.

Flower girls were Betty Jean and Maxine Hillebrand, Betty Less and Jean Spivey, Lois Tucker and Virginia Darnell.
