Mr. Meriweather was born September 17, 1901, in Washington C.H. to John P. and Matilda (McLean) Meriweather. He was a life-long resident of this community where, for 30 years, he was a rural mail carrier before his retirement in 1969.
He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Angler's Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert R. Meriweather; a sister, Frances O. Meriweather.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha G. (Gibson) Meriweather; two daughters, Jane Meriweather of Columbus and Ann Shafor and her husband, Thomas of Spring Valley; a grandson, Aaron Meriweather Shafor of Spring Valley; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Gibson of Court House Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Meriweather's body was cremated. Burial of the cremains, in Washington Cemetery, will be held at the convenience of the family.
A memorial service, with time and date to be announced later, will be held at the First Christian Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, Grace United Methodist Church, or the Fayette County Memorial Hospital.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kirkpatrick Funeral Home of Washington C.H.
