Funeral is Held Tuesday for Mrs. Henry De Groot, Sr.
Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed church here at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday,
March 19, for Mrs. Henry De Groot, Sr., 91, long-time resident of this vicinity, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chris Schiebout, here Saturday. Services were conducted by the Rev. B. J. Haan and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery. Vander Ploeg's Funeral home of Soux Center was in charge of funeral arrangements. A short service was held at the funeral home immediately preceding the service at the church. Mrs. De Groot (nee Anna Beukelman) was born July 4, 1865, at Oudbyerland, Netherlands. In 1876 at the age of 11 she immigrated to the United States with her parents who settled in the vicinity of Orange City. She was married on January 27, 1887, to Henry De Groot at Orange City and they continued to make their home in that area for many years. Mr. De Groot passed away April 21, 1928.
Survivors include five sons, Abraham and William of Sioux Center, Neal of Edgerton, Minn., John of California and Herman of Orange City; three daughters, Lena (Mrs. Chris Schiebout) of Sioux Center, Jennie (Mrs. Herman Schiebout) of Maurice, and Gertrude (Mrs. Arthur Nelson) of Omaha; 59 grandchildren, 165 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Two children, Winnie and Benjamin, died in infancy, and two other sons preceded her in death, Garret on June 3, 1952 and Henry on September 19, 1947. Other survivors include a brother, Abe Bcukebnan, of Sioux Center, and two sisters, Mrs. Peter
Berghuis of Sioux Center, and Mrs. Robert Van Drimlen. One brother and four sisters preceded her.
