Final Rites Held Monday For Mrs. Peter Berghuis, 80
Funeral services were held Monday, March 24, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed church, Sioux Center, for Mrs. Peter Berghuis, 80, who passed away Friday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Steve Slappendel.
A brief service for the family was held at the Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m., preceding the church service. Rev. B.J. Haan officiated at the services. Burial was made in Sioux Center cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Berghuis, nee Effie Beukelman, was born October 17, 1877, in The Netherlands and came to America when only seven months old.
On November 8, 1894, she was united in marriage to Peter Berghuis, who preceded her in death on December 22, 1936.
She spent all of her life in Sioux Center.
She is survived by the following children: Abraham of Hinton; William of Minneapolis; Lena, Mrs. Steven Slappendel, of Sioux Center; Floyd of Glendale, Calif.; Florence, Mrs. Franklin Keller, of Fort Worth, Tex.
Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one brother, Abraham Beukelman, and one sister, Susie, Mrs. Robert Van Drimelen.
Two daughters preceded her in death, Coba, Mrs. Gerrit Wanningen on December 26. 1927, and Lyda, Mrs. Andrew De Zeeuw, on October 14, 1957. One brother, Case, also preceded her as well as the following sisters: Anna, Mrs. Henry De Groot- Minnie, Mrs. John De Groot; Lena, Mrs. Bert Schouten: Nellie, Mrs. Dick Jansen; Jane Beukelman.
