Minnie was born Feb 7, 1872 the youngest of four children born to William & Anna Munson. Different sources list the last name as Manson or Manse. (Ann’s tombstone is listed as Manse). Her siblings are Sophie (b 1857), John (b 1859), and L (born 1870). The three Munson daughters married three Grotjan sons.
Minnie lived with her older sister Sophie when she was around 9. Her future husband Oscar also had a 9 year old sister named Minnie. (they also would have an infant daughter named Minnie and a daughter in law Minnie)
Minnie married Oscar Grotjan on January 30, 1890 and the couple had eight children. Grace (1890), Gilbert ( 1891), Elva (1893), Hobart (1896), twins Ruth and Ralph (1890), Minnie Louis (1906) and Earl (1910).
The family suffered numerous tragedies. Daughter Minnie died at 4 months old the day after Christmas. Daughter Elva was widowed after 1 year of marriage, and then died of ovarian cancer at 41. Daughter-in-law Mabel suffered severe burns and died while using a gas powered iron. Son Hobart died in a car accident. And son Earl was killed while hunting rabbits.
Minnie died at age 82 on November 23, 1954 of heart disease and is buried in the Dalton Cemetery.
