LeRoy E. Carter
LeRoy E. (Roy) Carter, 70, retired ACL trainman and farmer, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in a local hospital after an illness of several months. He retired Dec. 31, 1962 after 53 years service with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Co.
Requiem Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church by Father Sydney R. Dean, pastor. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Waters Funeral Home by the Holy Name Society of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Mr. Carter, a life-long resident of Florence County was born in the Mars Bluff section, a son of the late James Thomas and Ellen Johnson Carter of Alabama and Mars Bluff. Most of his life was spent in Florence until he moved to his farm seven years ago.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church; a charter member of the Charles DuBois Wood Council of the Knights of Columbus; the Brotherhood of Railway Trainman and was a charter member of the Florence Elks Lodge.
Surviving are: a son, LeRoy Eugene Carter Jr. of Darlington; two sisters, Mrs. C. T. Byrd and Mrs. Gladys C. Thames, both of Florence; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Edward C. Filipink, Charles F. Frick, Joseph E. Millea, Roy B. Norris, Fitgerald O'Conner, William A. Weddington and William E. Bate.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus, members of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainman, members of Florence Elks Lodge, Mosely C. Coleman and Roy K. Stokes.
Mr. Carter died Tuesday in a local hospital after an illness of several months.
