Bio

Seven Oaks area, Lexington, South Carolina, USA

Life-long South Carolinian, except for the seven years in the USAF and the space program. Born in 1940 and raised in the Pee Dee area. Graduate of the University of South Carolina. Returned to the Columbia area in January 1969, married later that year, and have lived with 1 1/2 miles of my present home in Lexington since 1971. My wife still puts up with me after all these years. Even as an only child, I was fortunate to have a very loving "large" family, with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins. This love and interplay of family shaped my life in so many ways, including my love of history and the study of genealogy, which began in 1971. Feeling the desire and need to document even more of my extended family history, I ventured into the Find a Grave a few years ago and in the process, met over the internet, a distant cousin. Various personal challenges since that initial meeting kept me for nurturing that relationship until July 2014. We reconnected and she invited me to be a registered quest on her Ancestry.com tree. While there, I also noticed she was very active in Find A Grave with numerous memorials created. I wanted to do the same. I felt initially that I could manage some of the memorials that others had created, but since had died. I have already requested transfer of some of those memorial to me to manage. I am now just waiting for answers. I am also looking for grave sites that have not yet been covered. Any comments, suggestions, and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time! The trip will be endless and bumpy, but I love the possibilities and challenges. 'Nuf said!
