DELLA PAULINE (SEE) BYERS, 86, of 141 Briar Ridge Drive, Waynesboro, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, in her home. She was in failing health for the past several years and critically ill for the past month.
Born Sept. 17, 1917, in Mathias, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Moses M. and Ida M. (Nicholson) See. She lived her early life in Mathias and Stevens City, Va., and moved to the Waynesboro area in 1935.
Mrs. Byers attended school in Stevens City.
She and her husband, Percy G. Byers, Sr., were married in August 1951 in Waynesboro. They moved to the present residence in 1970. Mr. Byers died Dec. 25, 1993.
Mrs. Byers was a homemaker. She also did domestic work for area families.
She attended Rouzerville Methodist Church.
Mrs. Byers is survived by three daughters, Delores Patterson of Fayetteville, Junia L. Warthen of Emmitsburg and Nancy L. Paxton of Chambersburg; three sons, Albert G. Halterman Jr. of Hendersonville, Tenn., Melvin L. Halterman of Pen Mar, Md., and Percy G. Byers Jr. of Falling Waters, W. Va.; one sister, Vesta L. Nethers, who lived with Mrs. Byers; two brothers, Wilbert M. See of Winchester, Va., and Alleston S. See of Gurnee, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alicia Halterman; one sister, Treva V. Cook; and three half-sisters.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Prudence Yelinek officiating. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service Saturday in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepard, 2700 Luther Drive or the American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., both of Chambersburg, Pa. 17268
