George Washington Carter (1791-1833) married Mary Burwell Wormeley (1796-1865). They married in 1812 in Frederick County, Va. and later moved to Mississippi. Nine children were Mary Eliza (1814-44) who married in 1831, Stephen B. Cobb; Eleanor Courteney (1816-32); Rosalie Otwayanna (1818-c1855); Sophia Frances (c1821-1901); Georgiana Virginia (d.inf); Anna Beverley (1825-79); Harriet (d.age12); Georgiana Washington (c1832-1903); and Virginia Boling Carter (1833-1923).


George Washington Carter's mother was Betty Lewis (1765-1830), the second daughter of Col. Fielding (1725-81) and Betty Washington Lewis (1733-97), who was born at "Kenmore," Fredericksburg, Va. She married in 1781, Charles Carter (c1760-1827), son of Edward (1733-92) and Sarah Champe Carter, of "Blenheim," located adjacent to "Monticello," Charlottesville, Va. They lived in several north central Virginia Counties and inherited about 1200 acres from George Washington on the Ohio and Great Kanawha Rivers. Their sixteen children were Betty Washington (1782-95); Sally Champe (1783-84); Maria Ball (1784-1823) who married in 1802, author, professor and U.S. Congressman George Tucker (1775-1861)(W&M 1797); Edward (1786-95); Fielding (1787); Sarah (1789-1807) who married John Peyton (c1776-); George Washington (1791-1833); Charles Lewis (1792); Mary Willis (1793); Elizabeth Washington (1795-1811); Charles Edward (1796-d.yg); William Farley (1797-1862) who married in 1823, Eliza Ann Conn (1806-72); Eleanor Custis Lewis (1800-45) who married (1) in 1823, Henry Brown, Jr. (1797-1836), and (2) in 1838, Dr. John H. Patteson (c1798-1864), of Lynchburg, Va.; 1Lt. Lawrence Fielding (1803-37)(West Point 1825) who married in 1827, Lucinda Smith (1810-60); Otwayanna (1805-52) who married in 1832, Dr. William Owen (1788-1875), of Lynchburg; and Edward Frederick Carter (1807-14).
