Marvin H. Duke -- May 21, 1925-January 11, 2005
Marvin H. Duke, retired railroader, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died January 11, 2005. Mr. Duke was born in Dickson, TN, but has resided in Mobile for the past 47 years. He served in the Navy during WWII. He was employed by L&N (now CSX Railroad) until his retirement in 1987. He loved trains, Braves baseball, and Saints football. One of the highlights of his life was his role in 'This Property is Condemned' with Robert Redford and Natalie Wood. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Duke; four children, Patty Hightower (Jimmy) Pensacola, FL; Steve Duke (Judy) Mobile, AL; Julie Bialobrzeski (John) Indian Harbor Beach, FL; and Robert Duke (Stacey) San Antonio, TX; two brothers, Bill Duke (Elvadean), and Ivy Duke (Odessa), both of Nashville, TN; eight grandchildren, Andy and Patrick Hightower; James Duke (Lettie), Elizabeth Duke; Matthew, David, and Paul Bialobrzeski, and Damian Duke; and one great-grandchild, Ansley Duke. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 13, 2005, and services will be held Friday, January 14, 2005 at 10:00 am, both at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. The family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.
