Valentine was born the son of Asa A. and Betsey O. Benson Robinson. He was employed by the Maine Central Railroad for 49 years, retiring in 1960. In Livermore, Maine on November 3, 1915, he married the former Hazel Mitchell who survives.

Other survivors include 4 sons: Harry of Farmington, John of Rumford, Ralph of Bloomfield, Conn., and William of Livermore Falls, 3 daughters, Mrs. Mary Bowman, Warwick, R.I., Mrs. Loretta Mercier of Livermore Falls, and Mrs. June Kinney of Livermore; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Swan of North Conway, N.H.; 5 brothers, Victor of East Bethel, John of Livermore Falls, Roscoe of Livermore, Lucien of West Peru, and Eugene of Norway; 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
