Charles F. Holmes, Jr., 85, of Wadsworth, went to his Heavenly home Wednesday, October 14, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born November 7, 1929 in Litchfield, to the late Charles F., Sr. and Leona B. (nee McBurnie) Holmes. He had resided in Medina County all of his life.
Charles had been a dairy and crop farmer for many years. He and his wife Pat had owned and operated the Friendly Shell Gas Station and towing service in Medina for many years. After selling his business, Charles worked for Lloyd’s Towing service driving tow truck. After retiring, he did part time deliveries for Carey Color of Sharon Center.
Charles had a great love for draft horses and pulling ponies. His family was involved in showing at fairs and horse shows. He was quite interested in racing stock cars, helping friends ready vehicles for the Demolition Derby completions, watching NASCAR, the Cleveland Browns, Indians and Ohio State University teams. Charles’s greatest love was his family. He enjoyed watching his grand and great grand in all their activities.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Pat, married 59 years; children, Larry (Jana) Holmes of Medina, Lori (Keith) Smith of Litchfield, Lynette (Scot) Hoffman of Wadsworth and the late Loren A Holmes, 1968; grandchildren, Missy Holmes of Wadsworth, Michelle Birce of Medina, Brian Smith and Kellie Smith-Dash (Chad), both of Medina, Charlie and Cylie Hoffman, both of Wadsworth; great-grandchildren, Brock, Noah, Michael, Brittnie and Makenzie; sister, Rena (Ron) Thomas of Lodi and the late Ellen Vormelker and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be 11 A.M., Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City. Randy K’Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in Litchfield Cemetery, Litchfield. Calling hours will be Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 3 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Hospice of Medina County or to any animal charity of choice.
