Yesterday evening at Williamson, Alex Trent, one of the oldest citizens of Mingo county, and a man of considerable wealth, was shot and probably mortally wounded by Policeman Otis Riley.

Trent is 86 years of age and it is feared that he cannot stand the shock. He is said to have been drinking when shot. The shooting took place in the second story of the Palace Hotel and the policeman claims that he was trying to arrest the old man when he attacked him with a knife. Trent was brought to the Miners Hospital at Welch.
