In May 1940 her parents Garrett (34 y, truck driver for a retail dairy) and Trena Leep (25 y) lived with their children Earl (5 y) and Loretta (2 y, Lori) at a rented home in Highland Town, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana, adjacent to Cook County and Chicago in Illinois. On 1 June 1940 their daughter Elaine Joyce was born in Hammond, a few miles northwest of Highland, in Lake County too. They had in Highland and Hammond also the children, thus siblings of Elaine: Ruth (1942), Rowland (1945), Patricia (1949), Garry (1952) and Robert Leep (1958).

Elaine married on 27 May 1960 in Highland to Henry Edward Wierenga, born on 1 march 1935 in Chicago, son of Edward and Anna Wierenga. They had in 1962 daughter Teri Joyce, in 1965 son Lance Bradford and in 1967 daughter Jodi Ann. Her husband Henry Wierenga died in December 1988 in Chicago and Elaine remarried on 1 August 1987 in Des Plaines, Illinois to Gene McGlone, who was born in 1935 in Indiana.

Elaine J. McGlone of Elgin, 69, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009. She was born June 1, 1940, in Hammond, Ind., the daughter of Garrett and Trena Leep. Elaine was a child of God, wife, mother, grandma, sister, mentor, friend and artist. Elaine was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Elgin. She volunteered as a mentor and tutor. She was a juried artist and member of Art for All. Survivors include her husband, Gene McGlone of Elgin; six children, Jeffrey (Wendy) McGlone, Teri (Alejandro Hernandez) Joyce, Gregory (Peggy) McGlone, Lance (Sue) Wierenga, Pamela Zemla and Jodi (Bob) Hoffman; along with 14 grandchildren; three brothers, Rowland (Tobbie), Garry (Michele) and Robert (Grace) Leep; three sisters, Lori (Bill) McQueary, Ruth (Ken) Dawson and Pat Leep; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Earl Leep. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Elgin, with Pastor Gregg Huguley officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be today, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St. (Route 31), Elgin, and on Thursday, at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials to World Vision, would be appreciated. To celebrate her homegoing, Elaine and family request that bright Easter colors be worn in her memory at the visitation and funeral.
