Aubrey Gatlin moved from Tennessee to Choctaw County, MS, with his family as a young child. He is the son of Elijah Hendrix and Onie Dunn Gatlin. He graduated from Ackerman High School, attended Mississippi State College and graduated from Delta State College. He was a teacher and school administrator for many years, but spent the later years of his life in industrial development, mostly in central Mississippi. He and his wife Ida Lou Boyd had retired to a farm in Madison County at the time of his death. Even in retirement he continued to work, serving as director of the Chamber of Commerce in Carthage, MS. He died unexpectedly at home. Aubrey and Ida Lou were the parents of Aubrey Leroy, Dorothy, Boyd, and Jonathan. Their second child, Virginia Ann, died in infancy.
