Private Asa B. Bennett of Brunswich County, North Carolina enlisted in the 36th Regiment Company G on May 5, 1862 and was wounded at the taking of Fort Fisher on january 15, 1865. He was taken as a POW and later died in the hospital of disease in Elmira March 9, 1865. Was married in 1854 to Susan H. Thomas of North Carolina.
