Mr. Cook was born in Conway a son of the late Lester Rufus Cook and the late Pauline Ray Cook. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in the Vietnam War and was a member of Loris First Baptist Church. Mr. Cook taught at Loris Middle School for over 20 years and was a coach. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Mr. Cook enjoyed music, playing guitar and other instruments as well as singing, cooking, and playing golf. He never met a stranger, was always willing to help others, and was loved by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Steen Cook of Loris; two sons, Daniel Cook (Marina) and Jim Cook of Loris; two brothers, Harold Cook (Hilda) and Ricky Cook (Cindy) of Lancaster; two sisters, Rachel Helms (Michael) and Janice Moore (Terry) of Lancaster; and five grandchildren, Camryn Cook, Kaitlyn Cook, Austin Cook, Felix Cook, and Kaya Cook all of Loris.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Loris First Baptist Church with Rev. Drew Jackson, Dr. Jim Mezick, and Rev. Hunter Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow in the Happy Home Cemetery.
