About the gravestone picture - the monument stands over an underground tomb. There are over 90 of them in Eastern Cemetery. Each can hold as many as 30 people (or so I've been told). According to "Burial Records, 1717 - 1962 of the Eastern Cemetery, Portland, Maine" compiled by William B. Jordan, Jr. in 1987, Sophia Ostinelli Hewitt (daughter of James) was buried in Tomb 48 in section A. She died on August 31, 1845 at age 46.
The monument atop this tomb has inscriptions on all four sides, but none of the names are Hewitt. There are 16 names listed as being buried in this tomb, but none of the others are Hewitts.
