Hi everyone, my name is Carla Welsh (nee Seitz), and I am the daughter of the late William Vernell Seitz and the late Veronica Antoinette Dobson Seitz (nee Mallamas). I know all about the painstaking process of gathering all required documentation to join lineage societies, and sometimes you need headstones as proofs, so that is why I started this account! My roots go back to many of the founding families of America through my father's mother, which qualifies me to join many lineage societies. My paternal grandmother is Helen Seitz (nee Headley), daughter of Elvern Bacon Headley and Ella Jeffries, of New Jersey. My other lines did not come to America until around 1900 from Germany, Italy, Hungary, and England.

A little bit about me: I am a self-taught professional level genealogist/author. I have works throughout multiple historical societies in both NJ and PA. I won a 2022 Delaware County Preservation Award for an article I wrote about Jane Lownes, an early Quaker settler, and her "cave." I don't have any relation to Jane Lownes, but found the story of so-called "Quaker Caves" fascinating, especially since one of my ancestors, Mordecai Andrews, also had a so-called "cave" in Tuckerton, New Jersey, and I enjoy hiking/exploring:

I was published by the Atlantic County Historical Society in Somers Point, New Jersey, for a genealogical register I wrote about my Mason family of Egg Harbor Township, old Gloucester County, NJ, in their 74th yearbook for the year of 2021. My grandmother's brother's records of our family are located at The Atlantic County Historical Society, in the Vernon Headley Records, Collection Box 12-A. Some of Vernon's hypotheses are wrong, but he did wonderful researching our family in the days before the internet. He hired researchers from DAR to look into our family. He also recorded personal memories of our family. Not as many records were available and digitized for the public back then, as they are now.

A genealogical register I wrote about my ancestry back to Peter Wright, one of the first European settlers of Oyster Bay, Long Island, is available under the digital "books" section on FamilySearch.org. I get back to Peter Wright through my southern New Jersey Headley/Mathis/Andrews line. My book is entitled, "A registry of the Southern New Jersey descendants of Peter Wright, one of the first English settlers of Oyster Bay, Long Island, including the Headley and Mathis families, et. al., of Little Egg Harbor Township and Tuckerton, New Jersey." I am a member of the Swedish Colonial Society, with forefather status and approved as a descendant of Olof Stille, born 1610 in Sweden. I get back to Olof Stille in 2 ways, through my Egg Harbor Township,NJ, Steelman lines. Olof first settled by the Ridley and Crum Creek areas of present day Eddystone, Delaware County, PA, and then later removed to Philadelphia. Olof's daughter Ella married Hans Mansson, and removed to New Jersey, and after Hans' death, the family changed the surname to Steelman.

My areas of expertise are especially in southern New Jersey pre-Revolutionary families; in particular, the Jeffries/Jeffryes/Jeffers, Risley, and Steelman families of Egg Harbor Township, old Gloucester County, New Jersey. My specialty is tracing families and breaking brick walls through hard to access documents such as land and probate records, and old tax lists. Believe it or not, I have pretty much read through all of Atlantic County and old Gloucester County's deed and probate books, front to back.

I am also a Mayflower descendant, and have all paperwork to join the NJ Society of Mayflower Descendants (may join in the future). My 3rd great-grandmother is my connection to the Mayflower. Her maiden name was Phoebe Lamson. She married first John Mathis Headley (that is my line). Her second husband was Thomas Elberson. Phoebe was the daughter of Edward Lamson, Jr., and Catherine Bennett. I have family that joined the New Jersey Society of Mayflower Descendants through Phoebe.

I am also a descendant of several men who fought in the American Revolution; and in particular, I have proved my Risley Patriots with DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), and my packet was ready for the final approval, but then decided to withdrawal my packet and not join, due to life getting pretty busy, but may join in the future, when I get some more time!!! My Patriots are: my 5th great-grandfather Nathaniel Risley, and my 6th great-grandfather Jeremiah Risley, both of the Gloucester County NJ Militia, and my 5th great-grandfather John Jeffryes/Jefferies/Jeffers/Jeffries, also of the same militia, and my 5th great-grandfather, Samuel Bennett, of Stafford Township, Monmouth County, NJ, who fought for our country in Washington's main army at one point, at Valley Forge, and the Battle of Germantown, and other services.

I have a public tree on Ancestry. I actively update the world tree on FamilySearch.org, too. I also upload A LOT to Archive.org. For my stuff on there, my username is just "Carla Welsh."
