The above was on this memorial when transferred to me several years ago. It also recorded Ohio as her birthplace. I am only now (June 2022) trying to discover something about Mary's life.

Mary is my 2X Great Grandmother, wife of Peter McIntyre. I've only started seriously researching her in June 2022 and so far have only a bare outline of her life.

Mary was the daughter of Peter Cannon and Margaret McNamara, both of whom were born in Ireland per the 1880 US Census. These names come from the Church Marriage Records of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church which the Gueguen Family Tree (Ancestry) kindly posted. Mary's birthplace is also Ireland according the this same Census.

I have searched for Mary (and her parents) in the 1860 and 1870 Census and so far have not located them (11 June 2022).

MARRIAGE & CHILDREN

Mary married Peter McIntyre 17 Feb 1867 at the Immaculate conception Catholic Church in Lexington, Missouri. This infomration is also comes from a Church Marriage Record found on the well-documented Gueguen Family Tree on Ancestry. I checked online and discovered this church remains active today.

I'm quite sure Mary remained in Lexington, Missouri after her marriage to Peter McIntyre. as this is where her husband lived until he entered the Soldier's Home in Leavenworth, Kansas for care for illnesses contracted during his Civil War service. I visited the street (Highland) in Lexington where they lived on a 2015 research trip. This street, known as Irish Hill at the time Mary and her husband and children lived there, is located on a high bluff overlooking the Missouri River, a stunning view today.

The 1880 Census is the only Census I've found Mary listed in; the family is in Lexington, Missouri, as follows:

-- Peter McEntyre: 39 (= b ~1841), Ireland; Laborer
-- Mary McEntyre: 28 (= b ~1852), Ireland
-- James McEntyre: 12 (=b ~1868), Missouri
-- Bridget McEntyre: 10 (=b ~1870), Missouri
-- Mary Ann McEntyre: 8 (=b ~1872) Missouri
-- Kattie McEntyre: 6 (-b ~1874), Missouri
-- Agnes McEntyre: 3 (= b ~1877), Missouri

OTHER INFO: THIS IS IN REGARD TO PETER MCINTYRE'S PARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN - IT'S HERE JUST FOR REFERENCE AS OF 6/8/2022

I've just re-read a 1909 letter from County Longford, Ireland received by the US Pension Office 28 May 1909 in regards to her son, Peter's, US Civil War Pension Application.

This letter was included in Peter's lengthy Pension file I purchased from the National Archives in 2013. As I recall from reading this file, the Pension Office contacted County Longford to verify Peter McIntyre's date of birth, demonstrating the lengths to which the office went to verify a pension applicant's identity/age. In any event, this letter provides the baptismal dates of Peter and 7 siblings, all born in Columbkille Parish, County Longford.

I consider this letter to be the truest possible record of Mary's birth (or possibly from a prior marriage) name: HERSON.

This letter, signed by James Sheridan of Columbkille Parish, County Longford, Ireland lists the parents as Michael McIntyre and Mary Herson, and states they had 9 children, 3 of whom "must have been baptized before Register was begun". (I've identified 2 of the 3 so far.) These children will be listed in Mary Herson's memorial if the current manager transfers it to me (her bio states she is willing to transfer memorials).
