At the time of George's birth, Timisoara was part of Hungary.

George arrived in the United States at Ellis Island on 18 October 1909 on the ship "Prinz Friedrich Wilhelm" out of Bremen, Germany. He was just shy of one year old, the youngest of the family of Georg (27), Maria (24), Margit (4 3/4), Mariska (3), and Georg (11/12) Minnich. They came to join George Sr.'s older brother Peter, who was already living in Cincinnati, Ohio.
