In February 1871, at age 16, Julia joined the Sisters of Loretto at the Foot of The Cross. She wrote a short biography in 1898 that was kept with her records at Loretto Motherhouse. Julia listed her duties and work since taking her first vows in 1873. She served in many locations, Cedar Grove in 1873 in Louisville, KY; to Danville, Illinois in 1882; to St. Marys Academy, Elizabethtown, KY, 1886. In Nov 1888 she traveled to St. Mary's parish school in Denver, Colorado; in 1892 she was sent to Pueblo, Colorado, in 1897 to Conejos, Colorado where she taught 8th & 9th grades. She also spent time at Colorado Springs before moving to Las Vegas, New Mexico on Aug 10, 1901. She taught there until 1908 when she was sent to Las Cruces, NM. Julia returned to Loretto, KY in 1916. In 1923, she traveled again to Loretto Heights in Denver, CO. She returned to Loretto in Feb 1930 and lived the remainder of her years at the Motherhouse. Her older sister, Anastasia Ann McCauley "Sr. Claudia" also joined the Sisters of Loretto in 1870.
