Ray Ross was a true gentleman and an artist. His crowning achievement was the writing, producing, and directing a stage play, "Soft Rains", based on the Old Testament as inspiration.

"Soft Rains" is a statement about a man and his convictions. It is not necessarily a religious play, although based on the story of Noah and the Biblical account of the flood. There are no animals parading two by two, but rather "Soft Rains" is based upon the mental torment the man Noah must have gone through in dealing with his belief. Not only does Noah have to cope with his tormentors, he must help his family sustain faith in his purpose. The simple conflict of man vs. man is heightened further as Noah sees his family questioning the purpose to which he, and in turn his family, has been called. Noah's strength of purpose never falters. Physically he tires to the brink of exaustion, but spiritually he never, ever falters.

"You shall live a long, good life, like standing grain. You'll not be harvested until it's time." "The Book" Job 5:26 (Eliphaz speaking to Job.)

"I'd Rather See A Sermon"
I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day:
I'd rather one would walk with me than merely tell the way.
The eye's a better pupil, and more willing than the ear,
Fine council is confusing, but example's always clear.
The best of all the preachers are those who live their creed,
For to see good put into action, is what everyone needs.
I can catch your hands in action, but your tongue too fast may run.
And the lecture you deliver may be very wise and true,
But I'd rather get my lesson by observing what you do.
For I may misunderstand you in the high advice you give,
But there is no misunderstanding how you act and how you live.
When I see an act of kindness, I am eager to be kind,
When a weaker person stumbles, and a stronger stays behind.
Just to see if I can help him, then the wish grows strong in me,
To be as big and thoughtful as I know that friend to be.
And all travelers can witness that the best of guides today,
Is not the one that tells them, but the one that shows the way.

Edgar A. Guest

"One man scorned and covered with scars still strove with his last ounce of courage to reach the unreachable star; and the world was better for this."
