WEST FRANKFORT -- Warren Sloan Age, 86, died at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Warren was born April 11, 1926, in West Frankfort to Ira and Flossie (Broy) Sloan
He married June Forbuss on Aug. 8, 1946.
Warren was of Baptist faith.
He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II and the Korean War in the 764 Field Artillery.
He was a member of Moose Lodge 795, Elks Lodge 1340 and VFW Local 5764 of West Frankfort, precinct committee man for Frankfort 2, trustee for Freeman 3 and a member of Frankfort Township Board, a retired coal miner, street supervisor and business agent for Local 188 Laborers Union.
Survivors include wife, June Sloan of West Frankfort; four sons, Bob (Paula) Sloan, Chuck Sloan, Kenny (Connie) Sloan and Jim (Darla) Sloan, all of West Frankfort; daughter, Nora (Charlie) Ielase of West Frankfort; nephews, Ronnie (Sandy) Sloan, Jeff, Brett and Jason Sloan; five grandchildren, Bart, Andy, Neil, Brittany and Nick; and three great-grandchildren, Tenzley, Sandler and Avery.
The family would like to send a special thank you to his special caregiver and family friend, Rosemary Stroud.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Alan Sloan; brothers, Leroy and Phillip Sloan; and sister, Lucille Blades.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, in Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Pastor Steve House officiating. Interment will be in Denning Cemetery on Orient Road. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 27, at the funeral home. Military rites will be accorded by American legion Post 1961 of Orient, Zeigler Post 177, VFW Post 5764 of West Frankfort and Marion National Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available and memorials will be accepted at the funeral home.
