We lived in Cherokee, Kansas about a year while my father waited for a non-compete clause to expired. My father got Dick to be his hunting dog and they did hunt together. Dick's birth and death dates are only approximate dates.

I was only about 4 while we lived in Cherokee. I do remember a wonderful event. My father was a wonderful carpenter. In our back yard, he built Dick a dog house with a little partition at the door that prevented cold air from blowing in. I thought this was magical and was allowed to enter into Dick's domain and enjoy a good visit!

When we left Cherokee, our life-long family friend Bruce Buck took Dick to live with them. My brother was named after Bruce. Every summer, we visited the grandparents in Cherokee and always went to see Dick. He lived for many year.

He is the first dog I remember.
