In memory of Cornelius Hetfield, Esq. who died March the 20th 1795 in the 86 year of his age.
Sacred to the Memory of Abigail, wife of Cornelius Hetfield, Esq. and daughter of Benjamin Price, Esq. who died April ye 27th 1781, ae. 70.
Children of Cornelius and Abigail.
Ann and Joanna were twins.
Cornelius married a second time to Elizabeth the daughter of his cousin Matthias, she was a widow of Benjamin Williams.
Cornelius was very prominent in the slave trade. Here are several newspapers.
New York Gazette and Weekly Post Boy - April 27, 1752.
"A likely Parcel of Negro Boys and Girls from 12-20 years of age, who have all had the Small Pox, To be sold by Cornelius Hetfield in Elizabeth Town."
"To be sold very reasonable by Cornelius Hetfield at Elizabeth Town, East Jersey, a Parcel of healthy Negro men and women between 14-22 years of age.
