Elza Byrd is my great-grandfather.

Civil War Soldier. Member of Co. B, 43rd Indiana Infantry (Sep 10, 1861 – Oct 19, 1864) and Company H, 33rd Indiana Infantry (Mar 3, 1865 – July 21, 1865).

Elzy is the son of Samuel J. Bird (1788 – 1851) and Christina Ader (1783 – 1870).

Elza Byrd, an old citizen, died Monday at his home southeast of Whitesville The funeral occurred Wednesday. Mr. Byrd served through the war in Company B, 44th Indiana Volunteers.

Mr. Byrd died at his home, one-half mile south of here, Monday at 3 o'clock of brain trouble. Interment at Harshbarger cemetery on Wednesday.
