At about 5 years of age Fritz Goers along with his parents Fredrich and Maria Goers and his siblings: Wilholm D., Augusta, Louisa, Lena, and Matilda boarded "The Shakespeare" shortly after 12 October 1869 and sailed to New York City arriving there on 6 January 1870. Their final destination on the manifest was Virginia. However, after traveling to Virginia the family moved on south to South Carolina sometime before 1872 where Fritz began farming. In December 1874 their last child Sally was born in Richland County, South Carolina.
Frederick , Fritz father, died on 14 August 1878 from sun stroke while working on the railroad according to the records at Ebenezer Lutheran Church where he was laid to rest.
Maria Goers died in 1903 and was buried at Millcreek Methodist Church Cemetery in Richland County, South Carolina.
Both Fritz and his sister, Augusta Goers Konnemann stated on the 1900 Census that they had emigrated to the US in 1870.
