Peggy was born at Gardiners Township, Wilson County, NC. Her parents were Holloway and Mary Etheridge on a farm vauled at $1,000 real estate value. Her older siblings were Jackson born 1850, Louisa born 1854, and Nathan born 1855. Her younger siblings, born (during & after) the civil war were Penelope born 1861, another Margaret born 1863, and Sallie born 1866. She Married John Thomas Pittman on January 21, 1873. She had twelve children all by John Thomas. At the time of the Spanish American War, John Thomas and her (she x-ed her name) along with his signature, sold their 110 acre farm in July 1898 The farm was located on the west side of Wilson,NC on the road leading to Raleigh. The Whitfield family lived and worked with them on the farm. Peggy helped to raise Arthur Whitfield as a baby the 1st 3 to 4 years of his life until her death some where around 1903. Arthur's father is buried nearby John and Peggy at the same abandoned cemetery.
