Lester Lam, 96, of Stanley, went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2012, at his home. Mr. Lam was born March 28, 1916, in Page County, and was the son of the late Thomas Henry and Simeon "Etta" Smith Lam.
Mr. Lam was a United States Army veteran of WWII, serving as a Sergeant and landing at Normandy 6 days after D-Day. He had 277 days of actual combat. He was a carpenter by trade, an avid fisherman and enjoyed flatfoot dancing.
Mr. Lam is survived by his wife, Yowleth Virginia Eppard Lam; son, Harley Lee Lam Sr.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Liesener, Jamie Crittenden and Harley Lee Lam Jr.; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Emmit, Guy, Granville, Alan, Reese, Russell and Ausby Lam and sisters, Gracie Lam, Tissy Merica and Hazel Lam.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with Pastor Carter Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton with graveside rites by Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
