Death certificates can have errors. It is interesting that his daughter Elinzia Dell White Roebuck's death certificate cites her father as William R. White, his son William Slade White's death certificate cites his father's name as John Robert White and his Daughter Amanda Melvin White (Harrison) states only "Robert". Since I could find no further evidence of his first name being anything other than Robert, I have not included any other first name for him here.
NC Marriage Bonds show a Robert White marrying Treacy Leggit on December 18, 1826 in Edgecombe County, NC. The 1850 census shows Robert White married to Tracey White living in Halifax.
Melvina Cowin was his second wife married in 1868; she was certainly much younger than Robert.
