Arden- James Huey "Jim" Hamlin, 71, of 16 McDonald Rd. died Monday March 9, 2009 at the Laurels at Summitt Ridge.

A native of Madison County and a resident of Buncombe County most of his life. He retired in 1993 from the NC Department of Transportation where at the time of his retirement was District Supervisor and served from 1956 to 1960 in the Army National Guard and in the U.S. Army.

He was a son of the late Floyd Glenn Hamlin and Vada Frances Fender Hamlin and the husband of Carolyn Ester Lance Hamlin who died March 6, 2001. Mr. Hamlin was also preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Christopher and brothers, Jerry and Dennis Hamlin.

Surviving are his sons, Greg Hamlin of Swannanoa, Tony Hamlin and wife, Annemarie of Asheville, Michael Hamlin and wife, Kelly of Black Mountain and Boyce Hamlin and wife, Johnna of Arden; sisters, Margaret Frizzell, Faye Hamlin and Iva McKinney all of Asheville; brothers, David Hamlin, Aaron Hamlin and Billy Hamlin all of Asheville, Glenn Hamlin of Balsam and Eddie Hamlin of Greer, SC; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Warren Owens and Rev. Ed Worley officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.

The family will receive friends 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
