During the 1850 and 1860 census Freeman and Elvira lived with Benjamin Richmond who, according to some online sources, was Elvira's uncle. Freeman worked as a farm laborer and had a minimal assets.
Freeman and Elvira had at least six children, most of whom are buried in this same cemetery. They lost an infant, and two other children died quite young.
Benjamin died in 1862, and before 1870 the Friends' Society in Leeds had completely disbanded. Freeman subsequently lived in Lewiston, where he worked as a farm laborer and a grocer with his brother Edwin, and was also the proprietor of a boarding house. During these years he was a member of the Durham Friends' Society, and as time allowed he lead monthly meetings and participated in similar activities, including in Canada and in New York State.
In 1886 Freeman died after a long and painful illness.
At the time of her death Elvira had been living with her son Charles at 211 Brighton Ave. In Boston. She died of tuberculosis. The death record said she died April 4th, which contradicts the stone.
