A double funeral service was held on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare, for Belondie Pumarlo and Mae Schoemer, who died from injuries received in a one-car accident near Minot Oct. 3rd. Mr. Pumarlo was dead at the scene and Miss Schoemer died shortly after being taken to a Minot hospital. It was at first believed Mr. Pumarlo had possibly suffered a heart attack, but results from an autopsy placed his death as the result of injuries from the accident. Another passenger in the car, Emanilda Schoemer, was also severely injured and was in critical condition for a time, but is showing steady improvement from her injuries.

During the service, Fr. Joseph Adkins, Fr. James Pommier and Fr. George Dukart officiated, music was by the church choir with Miss Katie King organist, and two solos by Bud Carlson.

Rosary was held on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at the church.

Pallbearers for Mr. Pumarlo were Ronald Pumarlo, Jon Pumarlo, David Pumarlo, Richard Wulfekuhl, Chester Masters and Harlan Burr. Pallbearers for Miss Schoemer were Gerald Huber, Ronald Huber, Alan Bauer, Gayle Huber, Kenneth Huber and Felix Essler. Interment was in St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery with Daniel-Sorensen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Miss Mae Schoemer, age 73, was a native of Padua, Minn., born on Dec. 26, 1903. As an infant, she came with her family to Elmdale Township, Ward County and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1921. She earned her teaching certificate from Minot State College and taught in Elmdale Township for several years.

She later worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. until becoming disabled as the result of an automobile accident. She then moved to the family farm in Elmdale Township and had lived in Kenmare since 1962. She was a member of St. Agnes Church and the Altar Society.

Miss Schoemer is survived by a sister, Emanilda Schoemer of Kenmare, a brother, Mathew Schoemer of Kenmare, three nieces, two nephews, seven grandnieces and five grandnephews.
