Roman Catholic Saint, German Queen, Holy Roman Empress. Born in 975, she was the wife of Emperor Heinrich II. Together with him she was crowned Queen and Holy Roman Empress. She reigned the Empire during his absence. In 1017 she founded the monastery of Kaufungen. After Heinrichs death she gave he insignia of the Empire to his successor Conrad and retired to Kaufungen where she died as a nun. She was already very popular, much more popular than her husband, and was canonized on March 29. 1200 by Pope Innocence III.. Her catholic Feast day is March 3. Her protestant feast day that is celebrated in Germany is July 13. She's the patron Saint of pregnant women and sick children. Her attributes are the model of a church and a plowshare. Her grave is a work of Tilman Riemenschneider from 1513.
