Rural Ayr resident Joseph R. DeMuth, 96, died Sauturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at his home.
There will be no services or visitation. Friends and family will gather at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Ayr School for a potluck supper. Brand-Wilson is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. DeMuth was born Feb. 6, 1905, to Oliver and Sophie (Papst) DeMuth in Toulon, Ill. He moved with his family to Adams County in 1908. He graduated from Ayr High School in 1922. On May 6, 1953, he married Lois Gartner. She preceeded him in death. He was a farmer, working with his son, Jerry, until recent years.
He was active in the rural fire district, and was a member of the Adams County Agricultural Society, the weed control district, Blue Valley Cemetery, Golden K Kiwanis, School district 53 and Adams County 4-H committee. He started the Blue River Champs 4-H club and received the Silver Cup award for 50 years of 4-H leadership.
Survivors are two sons, Jerry of rural Ayr and John of Land O'Lakes, Fla; two daughters, Joanne Seberg of Ayr and Jennie Hutchinson of Lander, Wyo.; two sisters, Emma Hunter of Hastings and Maried Fulkerson of St. Joseph, Mo.; eight grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be given to the Blue Valley Cemetery in Ayr, or the Joseph R. DeMuth 4-H Scholarship Fund, c/o Sue Brown, Adams County Extension Office.
