Bob was born in Hocking, Iowa, to Robert and Susan (Fillinson) Patterson.
Bob was a longtime resident of Chariton and graduated from Chariton H.S. in 1943. He joined the Navy in 1943 during WWII. On July 02, 1949 Bob was united in marriage to Ruth Ridinger in Pochontas, Arkansas. Bob was an accountant and worked for Bob Stone from 1955 until he retired. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, shooting pool and playing poker. He was Sec'ry/Tres'r of the Lake View Country Club on three different occasions.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth; three sons, Robert of Fairway, KS, Michael of Chariton and Steven of West Des Moines; three daughters, Karen of Chariton, Cheryl Graan of Fairbanks, Ak, and Patricia Dougan of Des Moines; one sister, Donna Stuchel of Chariton; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
