Linus Greeley Richards was born at Pepin, Wis., July 18, 1859, and passed away at his home at Vanceburg, Wis., May 7, 1934, at the age of 74 years, 9 months, and 19 days, death coming as a happy release from many long years of suffering.
As a young man he was employed by the Knapp Stout and Co. in their store at Menomonie then serving them as bookkeeper in their mercantile business at Prairie Farm.
Later he became a grain buyer in the Dakotas. In 1911 he returned to Wisconsin where he conducted a general store at Vanceburg until forced by ill health to retire.
In 1888 he was married to Edith George and to this union were born three children -- Roy of Poplar, Mont.; Mrs. J. M. Anderson, Vanceburg, and Clare of Minneapolis. All of who with his widow survive.
The burial took place in the Vanceburg cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, assisted by Rev. C. F. Berg of Prairie Farm, singing by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Haker.
Dr. A. E. Bryant, master of Menomonie lodge, F & A.M., conducted the Masonic burial service.
Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. C. L. George and daughter, Jean, and Clare Richard of Minneapolis; Roy Richards, Poplar, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. Norm Sutliff and Stephen Horkey, Boyceville; Mrs. Maude Lanckton, Mr. and Mrs. George Sprague, John Harmon, Mrs. I.L.Harmon, Mrs. C. D. Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Al. C. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Goff, Dr. A. E. Bryant, John Larson, Mayor Albert Nathness, m. F. McLeod, John Kuhn, J. Houg, C. Schabacker, Harry Boylan, Ed Johnson, Albert Miller all of Menomonie.
